Changing my "Diet" Changed my Life

I used to turn to pop culture magazines or romantic movies for my daily bread, reading and watching as I filled myself with its empty substance. I thought that with the help of gossip columnists, I could be delivered from bad breakups or gain wisdom on how to attract the right man. Little did I know, those influences would dictate my every move. I've come to learn that we not only digest through our mouths, but through our eyes and ears as well. Our physical health for instance, is a result of our diet and exercise (or genetics for the blessed and highly favored); while our spiritual health is a direct reflection of what we read, listen to, and with whom we surround ourselves.
When I was parlaying in the world, it seemed so difficult to get out of the "live fast" lifestyle. After all, I was partying with the rich and famous, dating the eligible bachelors, and wearing the latest fashions. Living for Christ was the last thing on my mind...

And my bible? Lets just say it was collecting dust. My focus was becoming a famous singer, while enjoying bottle service in the hottest night clubs. Isn't that what "making it" looks like? Getting all the attention and being in the "it crowd"? YOLO?!  It's all smoke and mirrors because in the end, I was left with a broken heart and a loss of identity (not to mention the regretful hookups). I fell for it momentarily, but by God's grace, I was protected from getting too far gone. Oh, how those experiences would allow me to connect with women later on in life; women that were following the same trail I once knew too well.

It was time for THE exchange: My wayward life, for God's way of life. Spending time with The Lord has upgraded your girl! My speech, habits, and overall appearance have changed. It's like night and day! I can compare this to my husband and I. As a result of spending so much time together, we're taking on each others mannerisms, characteristics and even desires. People are starting to say we look alike. One of our friends even referred to us as "twins." The point is, you are what you eat! The Word of God became my daily bread., and I'm still receiving revelations every time I read it. The Word also exposed me to the greatest love story ever told (John 3:16)... and more importantly, who I am in Christ.

Following my surrender came deliverance from worldly desires. My true purpose had been revealed, and the man of my dreams (God's choice) put a ring on it! Be filled on the word of God and be drunk in His spirit! Rejecting my sinful nature has resulted in my world coming into full alignment. Pay attention to your spiritual "diet", and as you continue on your journey you will see the benefits as well.
